He who makes the most oil rules.  They can also rule/determine what currency
they will accept.

They've been accepting dollars.  And probably were foolish in reinvesting
them back into dollar based assets (i.e. Citi, treasuries, etc.).

Maybe what will trigger a middle east war will be an attempt to switch away
from dollars....

and then maybe we would have to insert - he who makes the most guns/nukes....
rules.

There are a couple of old , cliched 'sayings', leslie

1) If you owe the bank, ten thousand dollars and can not pay, you have a
problem; but if you owe the bank $10,000,000.00 and can not pay, 'the
bank' has the problem.

In other words. If you are going to be in debt, don't be a slouch about
it. And, as a nation, we are no slouches. We owe more, as a nation, than can
ever realistically be expected to be paid back.

2) He who has the gold makes the rules. 'Just substitute " the most
guns," or "the most nuclear weapons" for "gold"

Ha! I just asked the same question of the list a moment ago - it's obvious
that great minds think alike!

Anyone heard from Don recently?

I haven't read every post, perhaps I missed something that said he was going
to be off the list while he travelled.
