The new farmers hated osage and cut it all down if they could. there are
still a few trees here and there and the neighbors thought i was nuts to want
some on our land, lol.
black locust is also supposed to be excellent rot resistant posts.
i do know that in archaeological digs, they do find the charred remains of
posts, so it must give it some resistance to decay and rot. the non-charred
parts were never found. also, many fire pits are found in these parts, with
old charcoal left in them. so charcoal does stick around for a long long time.
