I should be able to see the X screen on the computer
from which I am telnetting.

In order to see the X screen on the computer from which
you are telneting, you need to send the X display to
that computer (export DISPLAY=192.168.1.7:0). You also
need to run Xvesa (or other Xserver) on that computer
to receive the X output.

Do I first telnet in CLI mode, then switch to another terminal (a VGA terminal in my case since I also have MDA) and type Xvesa? On which terminal and when do I export DISPLAY? I can't do it from Xvesa. Do I do it after telnetting in CLI mode on the first VT?

Please specify the details and I will try this with serial connection and pppd. Thanks, this sounds fun. So we could BOTH run opera on the same phone line and go to two different sites on two different monitors? Or run two X programs full-screen at the same time?

Can someone tell me which linux program I need to convert between tiff and gif and jpeg? xv and zgv did not seem to do that. My DOS image viewer pictview views and also converts. ImageMagick?

Cheers,
Steven
