config files change that made a box unbootable...) I know this is not an
easy problem to solve in sorcery, this would indeed require to have a
much better trigger system. I would not blame our sorcery team for that.

If you have any comments on triggers, I urge you to respond in the thread
I started about the new triggers and trigger mechanisms in devel sorcery.
Using some of the suggestions I posted its probably feasable to have
openssl trigger rebuilds on all the spells it breaks without much (still
some) effort from the gurus...

Well, we already talked about that on IRC. But my ideas seemed not very
good... But even if you can implement such a behavior, it would be still
useful to have a WARNING file, since it can takes hours to fix the
system.

We'd have to know it broke something to put the WARNING there. In this
case that wouldn't have helped as the testers thought the update went
okay. Perhaps use stable grimoire for production systems and test for
ones which you don't mind using to help debug. A WARNING would add Yet
Another Prompt which would make other people complain. Ideally a way
should be found (and there is work being discussed for Sorcery[0]) that
will allow spells to be more 'intelligent' about when they need to
recompile (e.g. openssl updates from 0.9.7c -> 0.9.8 would require
lots of recompiling, but openssl from 0.9.7c -> 0.9.7d would not).
