Bev , a few things that work for me...........

1) I only eat home-made or hand-made Candies -- never mass-produced store bought.

I don't eat candy, Bob. I just never had a sweet tooth. I can't
remember the last time I ate a candy bar...maybe 5 years ago?

2) I only eat ice cream in the summer, when it is hot. I can't buy homemade ice cream, but I buy smaller amounts of 'better' ice cream.
This rule helps me to cut down on ice-cream intake.

I eat ice cream maybe twice a year...only two scoops of vanilla..I am
somewhat lactose intolerant so any more makes me sick.

3) I keep a lot of stuff like roasted peanuts and popcorn for when I
am hungry between meals, so that I don't end up cooking a burger or a pork chop (or two) for a mid-day snack. I was always thin, But, once you pass a certain age 'and' quit smoking, a few extra pounds seem inevitable.

I've already lost the weight I gained from quitting smoking.
A snack for me could be three spoons of cottage cheese(I crave the
stuff-could eat a whole container, so I limit myself to 3 teaspoons) ,
cheese and crackers(homemade saltines), 'boiled peanuts', boiled egg,
yogurt, apple, orange, pear, English muffin, toast, cinnamon bagel,
baked potato, tortillas with salsa or guac, etc. depending on how hungry
I am or what I have on hand.
I just finished off my English muffins, now I am craving whole grain
bread with honey butter<g>. This list comes from all the 'snacks' I
have had in the last month or so.

* 4) The thing that helped me most, except for the occasional pleasures (Like cheeseckake or those listed above),is that I do 'not'
use sugar. I drink caffeine-free diet Dr. Pepper. It is the only dark colored soft drink , in diet form, that I find palatable . My wife uses that sugar substitue that you called poison, for tea, coffeee, and some cooking.

More power to ya, I just couldn't do that..

I am lucky that I don't have a sweet tooth...I like salty, starchy
stuff, like cheesy stuff, which is just as big a problem.
