I've revisited the topic more than once, most recently to state that my earlier intuitions had been confirmed, that it's not reliable to perpetuate yeast in hop decoction over and over, since hops don't kill all types of bacteria, but that it's preferable to keep the yeast as sourdough on a permanent basis, and make a new hop culture each month that's seeded with sourdough yeast, rather than the previous hop culture.
You were on briefly after I joined in 2001, but shortly thereafter
you said you good-byes, saying it wasn't quite your cup of tea. I
assumed you meant the half-dozen daily bushbashings from TV. Later
you came back?
Truth be known, I did not leave then. In 2001, I was out crossing the
country, meeting the good folks on this list. I drove from Georgia to
Oregon and back over several months..a great adventure. If I said
goodbye then, it was to take my trip, otherwise it was just to lurk for
a while. I do that sometimes..
I don't suppose anyone else remembers the hop yeast posts,
either, it would seem.
I remember conversations about hops and yeasts, but not your post. When
was that?
I did indeed write the program, from some _formulas_ I found online. It was quite easy to modify it to accept any latitude and longitude, typed in from the keyboard, which I had planned to do anyway. Soon my partner told me how to create the "release version" (I hate our compiler) and I emailed it to you. You passed me off to your husband. We had some trouble figuring out how many minutes of correction were needed for a given longitude. Somehow he came up with the same answer I did, for your place. I thought it was a triumph, but I guess he never told you about it. You now have a good program that should work for your longitude, if you just enter "46 minutes" for the longitude correction (if I recall correctly), and type in your latitude when prompted. I expected to hear _something_ about it.I'm referring to your behavior when I went out of my way to send the
computer software I had written to draw a cute analemmatic sundial picture for any latitude and longitude, after you showed interest..
It wasn't very rewarding to hear not a word in response.
Bill, I am worried about you. Please recall that we shared several
emails about the sundial program. In the first place, according to what
you told me earlier, you did not write this, and I am sorry that you
felt that sending me a 100Kb program via email was going out of your
way. I could never get it to work for me, and I told you this. (at the
time, I had no way to open a .wps file) AND We determined that it was
specific to your location, remember? You then offered to use my lat and
long to adapt it for my location because I did not have the skills to
write the program myself.
But that's just the beginning. Lynda's post tonight about water having nothing to do with soil pH was so off the money, yet I didn't hear you complain. It seems the level of truth or fallacy of a statement, on this list anyway, depends on who says it.
As for the ads, I think it's fair to say that a half-dozen daily bushbashings (none of them yours) constitute ADS.
