This is the error you get when you forget
to insmod slhc and ppp. pppsetup does it
automatically, but it doesn't last.

I reealize this, but as I said, I FIRST did

insmod slhc
insmod ppp
insmod lt_modem
insmod lt_serial

Perhaps something in your lt modules is fouling
something up? Or perhaps the lt modules need
to be inserted before ppp?

Not when I chrooted to BL2 or BL3.40 and dialed, without inserting any other modules, or booted to them and dialed with modules inserted in that order. BL3.40 ext2 dials, BL3.50 ext2 or fd does not dial, gives me that error about no ppp support in the kernel. I hope someone else with ltmodem can check this out.

I think I got come complaint if I tried to insert the lt modules first.

BL3.40 dialed with lucent modem, BL3.50 did not

Same kernel. Same modules. It appears to
me that the issue is at your end.

But where????? It is in ext2 beta BL3.50 and the recent fd version.
Does busybox affect dialing?

Please check your numbers

I just checked the addresses and DNS is no longer
available there. That's a pity. I wish someone
had mentioned this before I released the latest
version.

and if they don't work, change them in the posted
version

It's a losing game. There's no guarantee that any
public DNS service will be there tomorrow.

I put four different ones in my file and it takes a while befor they all go bad.

or add a note that they need to be changed to some
known working ones.

When you run pppsetup in BL3, you get the following
messages on the /etc/resolv.conf page:
------------------------------------------------------
replace these numbers with the DNS numbers of your ISP
------------------------------------------------------
What could be clearer that that?

Putting in something that is a space filler but not a number?
'DNS number of your ISP'

Something affecting ppp has changed between BL3.40
and BL3.50.

There was no change to kernel, modules, pppsetup,
eznet, pppd. There were some minor changes to /dev
but I can't see how that could be related to this
issue.

Busybox changed. What changed in /dev?

I will try to strace the problem, maybe with help from Karolis
Sindi
Cheers,
Steven
