I downloaded, installed, and tested it earlier today (Sunday here) and apart from the arrow keys not working with my 84-key keyboard, forcing me to use a mouse until I get xmodmap and a map copied to the free space on disk 2, and ppp-on not working with my lucent modem (which modules are too large for the free space), it works well.

I see there is a video item on the menu which lists other modes, but no obvious suggestion that I noticed of how to set up with them. Maybe I missed that. (I know I can edit Xconfig, but is that option listed in the jwm menu some place?). I assume this version is to be used on various friends' computers, most of which will now do more than 800x600. Perhaps Xsetup could offer 1024 and 1280 in some menu next version along with the list of available modes.

jwm loads nearly instantly and Alt-F1 gives a nice menu (which I cannot access with my arrow keys yet) listing nearly all available programs.

There was not space on disk 2 for the static version of msmtp (so I could send mail out directly via my ISP, which now requires SMTP authentication) but I copied over eznet.con(f) for use next time I boot. Could I use the lucent and ethernet modules and msmtp and xmodmap from a third floppy disk if I have enough RAM?

I was going to try it on a different computer with a hardware modem and a newer keyboard but my partner tried to fix the dead PS/2 mouse port by plugging in the header upside down, and this seems to have killed the PS/2 keyboard port, possibly by shorting the power lines. Unless we are lucky and have just a blown fuse. No lights. The recommended fix was a serial mouse, and is now a USB keyboard which we have not got.

I use BL3 floppy frequently for things like repartitioning large drives for friends, such as a 120GB and today a 60GB with something on them (virus?) that was causing spontaneous reboots. It handles the large drives, where DOS 6.22 only goes to 2GB. And mke2fs could format (ext2) a drive which refused to format with DOS format. Not that this makes it usable in DOS. The one friend was so impressed he wanted to learn linux so I gave him the URL.

Also useful for copying files between DOS partitions. cp -a /hd/* /mnt .

David's 1-floppy USB version let me copy the Win98 USB_storage drivers (nusb23e.exe) from a flash drive to the Windows computer.

Are there common uses for BL3 that other users would like added to the jwm menu?

Thanks for the most utility per byte of any linux.
Next project is to set up to compile for libc5.

Going by the lack of complaints, the new floppy
version of BasicLinux 3.50 must be working OK.

One of the machines I tested it on was an ancient
monochrome laptop and jwm looked very nice and
responded well. I think it's a keeper.

BL just keeps getting better.

Cheers,
Steven
