If McCain had accepted the offer to come back he would have lost his commission and been out of the military.

Well, of course.

He was known as a Song Bird.

Actually, and I know I hold a minority opinion here, but actually, I believe he and every other POW of that era was, by today's definition, tortured, and personally, I don't care what they told to avoid personal pain. That goes for McCain or any other POW. That's why the military works on a need to know basis and things are compartmentalized-because they know that people do "sing" when under physical stress.

Contrary to the common myth about him, he
wasn't treated all that badly considering where he was. Sure, the medical treatment wasn't all that good but it is 100% better than the medical treatment others got which was ZERO!

I don't know what common myth you are refering to, but the Hanoi Hilton was indeed a Hilton compared to other places of internment.

He worked LONG and HARD to keep the records from the camp sealed for just that reason.

I doubt it was for *that* reason, but then again, I don't *know* of another...
I doubt the Phoenix lights were military flares, too, but then, I don't *know*, having not been there and seen it for myself. Perhaps McCain will tell us if he becomes CIC?

To put it all in perspective, let's not forget who wins the Purple Heart contest...(John Kerry..lol)
