Hi Steven,

I am afraid things are going from bad to worse.

Just in case it wasn't said earlier - I am using BL2.1 !

I tried editing rc.inet1 as you suggested, I even made a backup file:
re.inet1.bak.
On reboot, the rc.inet1 was back to 0 bytes, and the backup file had
disappeared altogether.

I can manually insmod rtl8139, and it appears in dmesg.
I can ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.5 (or 7 or 77), and ifconfig shows it is OK
with netmask at 255.255.255.0

route gives me something different everytime !

route add default gw 192.168.1.1 gives the result:

route -e :

kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window
Iface
neighbour table overflow
neighbour table overflow
neighbour table overflow
neighbour table overflow
ditto
ditto

And no amount of repeating "add default etc.." seems to make any
difference.

Needless to say, ping 192.168.1.1 does nothing until I hit ctrl-c, then it
tells me all packets lost.

I am nearly ready to rip the whole ADSL stuff out and go back to carrier
pidgeons.

Regards,
Ron
