I could, the one time that it all worked, but not otherwise: network

Yes. Not from mine at the moment, but my wife (using Win2000) has had no
problems at all.
There is an unacceptable atmosphere of "well, if you would use a proper
operating system" here at the moment.

I insmod the RealTek with netsetup.

Result:

realtek seems OK - my words.

udhcp client (v0.9.8) started
sending discover...
sending discover...
sending discover...
pause, then anoother 3 sending discover...
ditto, ditto, until I hit ctrlC

ifconfig shows the eth0, but with no 192.168.1.n address
This modem/router is setting dynamic addresses (default, but maybe it can
be edited).

That seems to be OK.
