Can we instead mount the freedos image somehow (mount -o loop freedos.img /hd ?) and move files to it before going into qemu/freedos?

I thought we had all our hardware under control yesterday but now we have a 700MHz dumpster find that only needs a quieter power supply fan and a non-stripy video card. (They kept RAM and hd but left 2x cd burner and cpu and Live! card). Our new cutoff may be 400MHz with 128MB RAM for desktops, which is suitable for kernel 2.4.31 and a larger glibc, and 100MHz pentium for laptops (16MB). Is anyone still using a 486 with BL?
Perhaps BL should split into a desktop branch suitable for 200MHz cpu and 64MB RAM, and a laptop/floppy disk branch, with different kernels and libraries. BL4 for desktops with qemu package, etc?

Do I put it onto the hard drive directly or onto floppy disk first?

This is a qemu hard disk image, and unpacks to the same size as the one
you got from the qemu site (10 MB). It has ocurred to me that you could
specify your computer's main hard drive as -hdb to qemu an so (maybe)
access files to/from it that way. But you'd have to have tools that aloow
reading/writing to the ext2 filesystem. I think the loadlin author came
out with those. Anyone else agree that something like this might work?

I think that I have done this before, so it may be feasible. A big
problem is that your main hard drive is likely already mounted (!) so
the two operating systems may fight for control of it, and that could
end in disaster. However, qemu does have the -snapshot option, which
should go a long way to solving this problem.
