I have attempted twice to download the 2-floppy bl3-21fd.zip file.
First time I unzipped (pkunzip -d) and the .img file was bad - pkzip said
something about CRC. Second time I downloaded the file (on a different
computer this time, where I had downloaded the DOS version which worked)
'error in ZIP' use pkzipfix. These are 20 minute downloads.

The chances of getting all pieces working might be increased if you could
post the image file separately from the rest of it (sort of like putting
an island in the middle of a busy road so you can cross half of it at
once).

These image files don't seem to transfer well or zip well. The first time
I did a dial-in kermit transfer (since I have not gotten DOS ppp working
on the laptop despite using the same DOS programs as elsewhere - for some
reason it will not automatically log in, or even let me do it manually).
The second time I used DOS lynx. I might try next with BL2 floppy on that
laptop except it is fussy about floppy disks so we would probably have to
make a new set on disks formatted on that computer.

There does not seem to be a failproof way to distribute the floppy-disk
BL's - either someone has trouble with making boot disks, or your
automatic boot disk making system for BL2 fails for some of us, or the
image does not download correctly in the zip file.

In the meantime I discovered that my laptop 486-25SL has an empty 87MB D:
partition (as well as the 87MB C:) so I have space to install BL3 from the
DOS loop version. This seems to be the perfect BL3 computer - too small
for compiling with BL2, and BL2 does not support the PCMCIA modem.
The dead CMOS battery must be rechargeable as it is working today.

But a 2-floppy version would still be nice for the pentium with bad hard
drive controller. I prefer BL3 to DamnSmallLinux on CD-ROM (which
is five times as large as my full BL2 installation but won't do kermit,
lynx, or opera, though it does have lots of other programs that I have not
tried yet, is good at identifying hardware, and got me online, and I am
grateful to James for it). BL2 floppy won't support the PCMCIA modem.
