I've germinated P. incarnata seed and had 100% success with year-old dry seed. The trick is that they like LOTS of heat to germinate. I put the flat inside a larger flat and put a sheet of glass over the top to make a "sweat box". This was INSIDE the greenhouse to boot. The temperature stayed at 95 to 100 in the box. Within two weeks all the seed was up. Once germinated, they grew fine at lower temperatures.
Also, P. incarnata grows very well from green cuttings if you can start them in a mist bed with bottom heat. They root in one to two weeks that way and take right off. They need to be started fairly early in the season to give them time to develop the fleshy roots that are what overwinter when the top freezes down.

Tomatoes are temperate seeds and will germinate well if cleaned and dried.
Tropicals don't care for that; they want to be planted when ripe, not held
over for a winter they wouldn't ordinarily experience...
Passiflora are hardier and will survive drying and holding for a while -
maybe up to a year - but their already erratic germination becomes more
iffy, with lower rates and longer and more sporadic times. I read that the
time to germination can vary from 2 weeks to 2 years.
Best success growing from seed would be from planting the fresh, pulpy,
seeds.
I learned from trying to root cuttings from a P incarnate that the fatter
material from the base of the plant roots better than the narrow vines that
look like they should tip-layer.

Hi Betsy,
Tomatoes have a similar problem with a kind of jelly around each seed.
I ferment them for a couple of days and the jelly is gone. Wash thoroughly
and dry on some newspaper. I'm not sure about storage of Passiflora seed.
You might find something on the Internet.
Good luck.

I have a productive, tasty Passiflora incarnata vine. It tastes so good
that I am collecting seeds from the ripe fruit. So far, I have tried to
remove most of the flesh surrounding each seed, then air-dry in a well
ventilated area. It is hard to remove all of the flesh. Will some
fruit adhering to the seed ruin the seed?

Any tips out there for a production seed harvest?
