I had a similar random-freeze problem with my old Blue-n-White G3. Your issue might not be the same as mine, o'course, but mine went away when I replaced one of the RAM modules. All of a sudden I had an extremely reliable machine again. If you have extra RAM around, or if you have enough RAM that you can take your modules out one at a time and still boot OSX, give it a shot - you might get lucky like I did.

I think Paul may have a good idea. Macs are little more particular with RAM. The only place I buy RAM for them anymore is Other World Computing. I have tried RAM from a couple of places, Intrex for one, and had nothing but problems. Give it a shot...
