Memory problems are hard to diagnose because often the problem will often come and go-- and the chip will pass a memory test, but the crashing goes away when you replace it. I like to spend a little more on memory and not have to risk the aggravation, but I've been flamed before for needlessly wasting money-- "hey, that $125 chip you bought from Crucial is only $95 at Bob's Furniture and Refurbished Memory Hut".
