I've spent lots of time in the feed store, the Do It center (hardware store), and anywhere else farmers might gather (expect Dunkin Donuts, where all the 'over 80' farmers hang out). I've never worn a wedding ring (I don't wear any jewlery), but I don't attract much attention. The vast majority of farmers here seem to be married....it's almost impossible to run a farm alone. You either need the extra help or the off-farm income from a spouse.

This is a VERY family-oriented area. You can't meet a new person
without them being a cousin to someone else you know. And families
stick together. I don't think a person can really fit in here until
there are at least 3 generations of the family BORN and raised here.
There are no 'social clubs' or anywhere to meet single people except
the bars, and I don't like bars. I guess I didn't mind so much not
having friends or a social life when I was married...at least I had
someone to stay home and fight with all day :-). This is a tough
place to be single; you are very much on your own.

When I worked, I did not wear my wedding ring. I noticed that I would
get 'looks' in the farm store when I bought feed and such. I'd be
joking around with the store owner, turn to walk away, and notice that
several men would be smiling at me....you might think about getting to
know the feed and seed folks a bit better..lol
