Hi Cathy; when I moved here, there were several farms in this area. The land across the street was being grazed with cows. I could only see 2 other houses from here, even if I went out to the street. Now there are 4 expensive houses and a large church within sight, where there used to be cows, and more houses over the hill, where I can't see them. All the other farms are gone.

This is a VERY family-oriented area. You can't meet a new person without them being a cousin to someone else you know. And families stick together. I don't think a person can really fit in here until there are at least 3 generations of the family BORN and raised here. There are no 'social clubs' or anywhere to meet single people except the bars, and I don't like bars. I guess I didn't mind so much not having friends or a social life when I was married...at least I had someone to stay home and fight with all day :-). This is a tough place to be single; you are very much on your own.

It wasn't like that when I moved here.

If you don't mind my asking, Lynn, what was different about it when you
moved there? Do you think the fact that you were married had something to
do with it? Sorry if I'm being too nosy. I've thought about moving back to
the area, but it is reeeeally family oriented. Extended families, I mean.
I'm thinking that a single woman, no kids at home, no family ties could face
some long lonely winters.

Practical considerations.

Cathy
