I, too, am drinking mostly 1554. A bit thinner than my fantasy
perfect beer, but all in all, superb. I hope I can get it in kegs
when I get back home.

It is not readily available here so I have to look around. BevMo has it and sometimes Barron's has it. It is no great hardship as I always have Stone Brewing nearby.

If only our stream ran in summer! My partner informed me that he would
not even so much as bathe in surface water, so with no need to water
very many plants in winter, that plan sort of died. It's cheap enough
to use it to raise the water to run a winter water fountain or
something, just for the fun of it. Is there anything to be gained from
using the ram to raise the water to a spot that's more accommodating to
a hydro-electric generator, I wonder?

You can tell your partner that my wife and I, many guests, and several former caretakers, have taken thousands of showers and baths in our stream water. And I am certain it contains coliform bacteria and giardia, as there is a strong beaver population upstream.

But we sure don't drink it. Nor do we drink city water.

Your last sentence baffles me. Any generator powered by water would be more efficient if the water source was at a higher elevation.
