Many people feel nuclear power generation is viable. Safety and waste
disposal are technology and political challenges. Ways will be found.

But it could be very expensive. Real wages have not increased in well over six years and may not do so for many more. People living on minimal investments or a fixed income may find themselves squeezed very hard. Energy costs will increase, the article on the Jack well indicated that oil has to remain in the $67 range to make the wells economically viable.

And Iran is talking of doing the same.

He points out rightly that the world's population is a problem. The
current level of 6.5 billion is totally unsustainable. Some projections
have us at closer to 9 billion in 50 years. He says that a post carbon
earth will have problems supporting 1 billion and that over the next 100
years we need to be acting to reduce population.

The internet is great! I went looking for the world population in the year 1700 and found this site http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/worldhis.html

The table shows somewhere around 600 million in 1700. It wasn't until 'around' 1800 that we hit the billion mark.

This kind of large scale population reduction is real scary stuff.
Interesting times these days....
