Gotta agree with that.. Turned off my electric hot water heater and found my
electric bill plummeted. Heat what I need now with Propane. Want to get a
solar hot water system but it's still too pricy! will have to rig up an
outdoor shower that is solar powered for the summer months!

All good advice. Let us not swing the brush too wide, however.
Propane is a better choice than electric for heating appliances.
Plus, if your propane tank is large enough you are immune to electric outages.

I have long wanted a large propane tank. Got one last fall; it holds
a thousand gallons. I will now refill it once per year at the time
that propane is least expensive. Electric outages will not affect my
ability to heat water, cook, heat the house. I have an RV fridge that
is three-way, twelve volt, 120 volt, and propane. It is small but a
good backup for when big storms knock out the electric. We were once
without electricity for six or seven days.

If I relied on electric for anything I would either have redundancy
or a good generator.

Heating is the absolute worst use of electricity.

You could rig up a quick and dirty system with black plastic pipe plumbed
into the inlet of your hot water heater. Add some valves for draining and
a thermo syphon tank or relief valve.

Been there, William. We put a plastic valve in a washtub, added a short
garden hose and spray nozzle, set it up on a plywood "shower stall" and
later found a big plastic skylight that I hinged over it. We didn't have
running water so I had to fill it with buckets of cold well water in the
morning.

Sure felt good after working all day, even through December. I wouldn't
say it ever got hot though. That was outside of Richmond Virginia. We
used the same principle for a similar one here in Pennsylvania that
served us well for 20 years until I finally put in a water heater and
real shower just a couple years ago.
