While you have somewhat of an idea there, there's a rub. The reason all that
organic material is so readily available now is that no one wants it. Most
of it is a liability and an expense. The rub is this: as soon as there's
viable market for the compost, all that material becomes valuable and scarce.

It's a lot like the French fry oil conundrum.

I think the real opportunity, if such there be, is in guiding people toward
raising some of their own food using the sort of methods we on this list use.

If everyone raised just a little of their own food, our dependency on
agribusiness would weaken considerably. Unlike the motor fuel situation, if
all the
locally discarded organic material were turned into topsoil, a very great
number of people could participate in hte process to some profit (not
'profit' in
the business school sense, of course).

None the less, if compost were to be had for sale, I'd buy it. It's a better
place to invest money than anything I can think of.
