Here it is:

Try also precompiled UltiMusE-LX, a 1987-2001 midi sequencing or music
notation program that works with Windows or Linux. The linux version is
umexport.tgz, just unpack it and put the binary somewhere (umuselx). It
is small and simple looking and will run on a 66MHz 486 with 20MB RAM (the
BL target). It needs libX11.so.6 plus glibc2 (libc.so.6 libm.so.6) - BL2,
or BL2 with glibc from SW7.1 added. The binary is about 320K. I think
it will also play midi files (but maybe not with AWE).

http://hometown.aol.com/knudsenmj/myhomepage/umexport.tgz,
or umuselx.htm for the home page. Use keyboard or mouse.

You can write sheet music or midi files with it, I think.
...
http://sound.condorow.net/midi.html - midi sequencers, players, about 2
pages worth.

The TOC of the main page (Sound and MIDI for LINUX) also lists quite a few
music notation editors and music typesetters. Common Music Notation
(cmn.tar.gz source code). MUP. Enough here to keep one busy for years.

There were also links to most of my older sound cards, but the ones I
tried were broken or forbidden (CS4232, Opti931, Crystal 4232).

The linux community seems to be very heavily into sound and MIDI.
...
I found a Debian 2.2 binary of 'X11 Rosegarden' which is an older and
simpler version: rosegarden-2.1pl3-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz. Gunzip and
then copy package.tar to /usr/local and unpack. I am missing libXaw.so.6
but have all the other needed X libraries (used by Xvesa).

Debian 2.2. is equivalent to SW7.1 (glibc 2.1.3, kernel 2.2.16, gcc
2.95.2). I am using their photopc and ratpoison.

If you have trouble finding the package I will email it to you.

Have fun with it.
...
There was some more... you should look yourself if you're interested.

David
