Our Slackware 3.2 book is dated 1997, second printing, following first
printing in 1996 This implies that SW3.5 is either 1997 or slightly
later.

In 1997 there were two standards of 56K modem. We have several so-called
56K winmodems that despite using the 56K driver, operate at 28.8K because
they are flex or X2 or something, no longer supported.

So SW3.5 might have been put together before there was just one 56K
standard for winmodems, but does that also affect normal modems?

Anyway, whatever problems we have had online occurred with all three
modems, not just the 56K.
