Apparently each new vote will require a new "node" which I believe is
OK. I don't know if it's OK that people can see the results after they
vote (probably not) so I'd be willing to customize this behavior.
What else can I do to make this a reality?

We'd want votes to be separate anyways, so the new node is fine. As
for viewing the vote after voting, perhaps an option should be added
(and submitted upstream ;)) to have the vote results unviewable by
anyone[0] until the closing time.

[0] Jeremy brings up a good point I didn't think about: With a
web-based sytem (or any database) where each submission has no unique
identify and content verification it would be relatively easy to
change what people voted for and swing the vote. This is one reason I
want GPG signed e-mails as then we'd have an authenticated record of
everyone who voted, who they voted for, and a means to verify that
their vote is from them and hasn't been tampered. With a web-based
vote we lose that while gaining ease of use (for those willing to use
a web browser, as apparently not all are ;)).
