I live in downtown Calgary, Alberta and am also new to the list.
Bow Chinook bioregion, characterised by the Bow River drainage basin and
Chinook winds (warm winds from the Rocky mountains to the west). Calgary is
situated at boundary of shortgrass prairie and aspen parkland. USDA climate
zone 3, average precip = 18 inches, often 12 inches or less,average ET 25
inches.
I have been focussing my work on urban issues (community gardens, intensive
urban / balcony / driveway / front lawn gardens, energy & water efficiency,
perennial plants for this region, forest gardens, water catchment, renewable
power) and working with industrial (e.g. oil sands) clients to improve their
efficiency. Trained and worked as a civil engineer (structures, water,
waste, hydrology) about 12 years before learning about PC.
would love to connect with others in cold, low water regions!
ciao,
Kelly
