Regarding Penang,

I've been to it several times in New York, by two different people (cute
Malaysian girls - lucky me). It is lovely, and I can only hope that the decor
is similar to the NYC restaurants - it adds to the flavor of the food.

Also new on Franklin Street: the Library. A new bar, clean, nice (if a little
bland) that just started up where the Taco Bell used to be. That is, next to
the GAP. Oh, and there's Rum Runners down behind the Bank of America Building,
that toxic transplant from Moore Square that one of my girl friends described
as "anti-hot".

I'm sorry to hear that Silk Road is going, but many businesses on that end of
Franklin are suffering - witness the changing dinner hours of Henry's Bistro,
disappearing Silk Road, and that bookstore that closed, oh, a year or more
ago.
But hopefully, in its place we'll get more things like Lantern (which, as
mentioned before is incredibly good) and the upcoming Penang. What I have
noticed is a lot of renovation and expansion from existing places.

It was nice to see all you Internetworkers again last night (I had been on
hiatus from the gatherings for about a year), and I hope that we can get some
of our people out for the next one (my people are School of Info and Library
Science at UNC).

Jesse
