Well they didn't call GW President Bush, it was "Mr. Bush", so why apologize?

Evil Grin....

I was a bit surprised at all the hoopla surrounding Mr. Wilson's brief
outburst, do we not all remember the speaker of the senate, Reid calling
Bush
a liar? Do we not remember the Dems as a body refusing to stand for
President Bush when he delivered the 2006 state of the union address?? That
was
not one man losing his cool for less than a second, but an organized effort
by the Democratic party to slight a sitting president and embarrass him on
national television. Their misbehavior on that occasion went on for the
entire speech. I disagree with both on this, the office of the Presidency
deserves a level of respect whether you agree or not with what the current
holder is saying. We have seen an apology from Wilson at least, delivered
immediately after the speech ended, and later on television, we should ask
the
same of the Dems and move on.

Drew

Much worse any way you cut it. No apologies from Reid, or the Dems for
their behavior to this day.

What you say is true. Our generation has been sullied by reality TV and
the lack of family values, or at least the lack of family mealtimes
together where manners are taught and lessons on decorum are learned.
Little kids learn decorum in church and in school and other places.
Even if you don't want to say the pledge of allegiance, for example, you
stand and at least show respect to others who are pledging. If you
don't want to sing the National Anthem, don't sing, but at least stand
in respect. I see so many incidences of disrespect where there is a
lack of decorum. We can blame Judge Wapner and Judge Judy and others
for allowing litigants to act crazy for ratings.

Yeah, I roll in the mud sometimes, but I will say this...
There was a time when I did not care about politics. Now, I care. I'm
learning more and more everyday, from this list and beyond, because I am
paying more attention. Perhaps I have traded my apathy for mud, but I
suspect I am not alone. Maybe in time, I will come to some sort of
equilibrium, and maybe wallow in Jello instead of mud..it is cleaner and
healthier.<g>

I'd go back a bit further than 10 years for the time you are reminiscing
about. Having lost my internet connection for the past 60 hours(I know
I said 56 before, but I can't count...it was 61 actually), I still think
the internet is a great thing. I missed you guys!

12-15 years ago, I saved almost everything. These days, I usually save
James' informative posts on Gardening, but in checking my file, I see
the last two things I saved were from Lynda. On 7/7 she wrote a great
primer on berries, and on 6/17 she wrote a safety guide for pressure
canning. Going back further, I have posts from James and Susan Jane on
scything and seed sowing techniques, a few from Marie and Lynda on the
donkey thread, and a one from Lynn on confusing squash bugs.

People here have plenty to share. Most just devalue their own opinions
and experience. Even a failure is important to share.

Sage, if you are reading, I'm glad to see that you got some much needed
rain. As I watched the radar this afternoon, I kept saying YES!
And Rob, you should see those JA's!!

Well, my County here in NE TN is Republican. What I have noticed is no
highway, bridge, or any other type of work going on,

-------------

Hmmm Interestoing observation. I think the majority in the county is also
Repub. I will try to find out tomorrow.
But I've noticed the same thing here, the few paved roads are cracking apart,
and it is hit an miss on the sand
roads which get scraped. Our road gets scraped,,,,, but then the neighbor
way down the road is a polician type.

The other sand roads around here, heaven help the people if they need
emergency medical or police response.
2 mph down those roads is too fast and will knock your fillings out.

In Redding they just spent $5.1 million (well, no
one knows what they really spent but that is the original figure put forth)
to put 51 palm trees down the middle of a road! You know, one of those
"beautification" projects. Plus they added landscape boxes, fancy
underground lighted crosswalks and had the local utility company bury their
power lines.

So, the project was finished a couple of months ago. Now the local city
council has said that the city has to lay off policemen and firemen because
they don't have any money.

Lynda

------------------------
Sounds like some projects they did in Miami..........
tons of palm trees that were supposed to be 12' by contract, and
6' trees were installed instead.............

and then they did zero-scaping for miles and miles and miles
between a divided highway type road..... except the divided area
was a ditch........... and the first rain fill up the ditch and drowned
all the zero-scaping flowering plants..............

IDIOTS........... you just gotta know that lined some politicians
pockets on the side as well as bailed out some nurserman
who was having slow sales............. too obvious.

Ya know I do believe the US Constitution says that funding for wars can not
exceed ..... two years.

Now that I think of that, the aid to the representative yesterday made note
of that fact when I pointed it out yesterday.... you woulda thought he would
know this kind of stuff.

It's strange to me that we make illegal immigrants an issue in the health
reform debate. It seems more logical to have an immigration debate to
discuss illegals.
My thought is that if someone is here illegally, the United States is at
least partially to blame for that. Morally, assuring that sick people have
access to basic care or at least trying to provide that is a good goal. If
there are illegals here, I'd treat them as any other human being and treat
them.

If there is a problem that we can not afford to or do not want to provide
for illegals like we do any other human, we should take measures to stop or
reduce illegal aliens. That would mean immigration reform.

As some of you know, I have land in El Salvador and spend some time there
homesteading that land.

There is no real way for a poor Salvadoran to apply to come here legally.
Anyone that gets a visa is a person of means in El Salvador.

When there are extra jobs in the US (now is not one of those times), a
person in El Salvador that wants to come here, pays a Coyote around $10,000.
You pay half up front and the other half when they get you here. If you
don't pay the last half, the coyote kills your family.

Once you get here, you grub for dirty work, accept less pay and usually pay
taxes (working under a fake social security number). You don't live a great
life, you live a cheaply as you can and send money home. You usually have to
pay back $10, 000 you borrowed from family. $10,000 is a lot more money in
El Salvador (remember these are really poor people). You are working at $7
or less an hour and paying that $10,000 takes a long time.

If you are lucky, you get the $10, 00 payed back and you are able to send
money home to help improve life for your family. They depend on you, and you
don't want to let them down. You work as many hours/jobs as you can. If you
are young, you try to do the things that young people do (date, marry, have
kids, raise kids).

Now, there are bad seed illegals that commit crimes, don't send money home,
don't pay back the family for the coyote fee, commit crimes once they get
here, are lazy, etc. All groups have good and bad in them.

Americans in general have no idea of the poverty in most of the country's
from where most illegals come from. Most Americans feel like a dishwasher is
a basic right. People here can not imagine living with the prospects for
life that most people in El Salvador, Guatemala or Mexico have.

Yes. Immigrating to the US illegally is a crime. It is wrong. It is breaking
the law. Using a fake social, fake drivers license are all crimes.

Sometimes people make a decision to break a law in order to better their
life and that of their children.

We need to stop the whining about illegal immigrants and put in place an
immigration policy that allows those that we want here (in the numbers we
want) to immigrate illegally. We need to secure our borders.

If we can't do those things, then it is as much our fault that people come
here illegally as it is theirs. It's like if I park my car and leave the
windows down and the keys in it. It's partly my fault if it gets stolen.
