It's the same principle. I think a person should always have the optoin of opting out of the system. Whether it's not driving on publilc roads, or not going to some foreign country to kill people they don't know who never did any harm to them...should be an individual choice. I know people who feel that the government has 'stolen' the airwaves with the new HDTV requirement, and refuse to get converter boxes...opting out of TV...their form of protest. We will always have to accept SOME pubic services/involvement and participate at some level (file tax forms, have a SS#, etc). I accept much of it that because it's the price for living in a civilized country. I think wars are stupid and unnecessary, but boys will be boys and will waste tax dollars on their macho pissing contests, and if people want to sign up, that's their business. Conscription in the military is, to me, the ultimate invasion of one's privacy.

Who gets to make the decision concerning which war we should or should not be involved. You just, yesterday, said that a man was wrong for not abiding by the instuctions of elected officials on what he must do to drive an 1/8 mile down a public street, do you now say that every 19 year old,and 22 year old, and 25 year old gets to decide which battle or war in which they will personally participate?

p.s. A lot of smart people , including Sciott Nearing, thought we had no business in WWII, until after Pearl Harbor; and then, only with the Japanese

Rob; thanks for saying what I was thinking. I have far more
respect for
someone who refused to be involved in a war we had no
business being
in...and for me, that's every war since WWII.
