My last homestead started out great, with like-minded neighbors. Over the 16
years I lived there, the area changed dramatically. It Yuppified and
Citified. I became a lone hold-out, surrounded by those with whom I did not
fit, by those who did not see a tax increase they would not happily embrace
(my property taxes more than quadrupled, but my property value barely
increased), by those who wanted to bring the city with them. I am once again
blessed to live in an area with like-minded people. My new homestead is
located in an ideal place for homesteading, and there are like-minded people
all around me. It is wonderful to live where you fit in, and miserable to
live where you don't. One simply cannot put a price on that. Good neighbors
add great value to life.
