In my case the water and the creeks are more than 2000 feet from the
electrical terminus and I am not inclined to run commercial power down the
mountain side to the gardens.
Have you considered a hillside catchment? Non-potable water should be pretty easy. Any kind of roof or controlled runoff area into a pond or tank. I suspect your hills are similar to the Ozarks and hillside soil is not appropriate to a leak-proof pond unless clay is hauled up. But there are any number of alternatives, the most exciting to me a ferrocement structure.
