All things being relative, and if weather and natural disasters are your criteria, then there are lots of places that are better. Add in a crime rate of 385 and unemployment of 14.7%, less than the state average for homeownership and less than the state average for income, well, choices, choices. We're right back where we were.

Although, I do have to continually shake my head over the criteria used for California. All of California is NOT Southern California and there are whole areas that have never had an earthquake, a flood, a mudslide or anyother thing happen. And since when is an earthquake a weather problem?

Here's a piece from Slate and NPR on where to go to be safe:

meteor could hit you directly if your luck was of the bad kind.
