It is possible to run Firefox on an old PC.
It is not quite as fast as Opera, but it runs
well on my 350MHz PII with 128mb RAM.

Opera 9 works in 24MB on a 100MHz (1997?). 8 works better.
i686 - 1995 Pentium Pro or later.

I recommend a GTK1 version of Firefox 1.5.0.12.

The file you want is:
---------------------------------------------
firefox-1.5.0.12.en-US.linux-i686-gtk1.tar.gz

------------------------------------
http://myh.no-ip.org/~m-ito/firefox/

Now also
http://keesan.freeshell.org/bl/firefox-1.5.0.12.en-US.linux-i686-gtk1.tar.gz
http://keesan.freeshell.org/bl/gecko-sdk-1.5.0.12-gtk1.tar.gz
(do you need gecko too?).

10MB (expands to 30) plus 1MB.

Congratulations and thanks. What glibc version and what dependencies?

I see Firefox 2.00 for ARM with gkt1 - can an i686 minimal gtk1 version be compiled (maybe with the less common libraries static)?

Cheers,
Steven

Currently running: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686;
en-US; rv:1.8.0.12) Gecko/20070604 Firefox/1.5.0.12
with the mplayer plugin (which works with our mplayer).
