Thank you very much for help.

links 0.95 and 0.98 use the same links.cfg
If you install links2 package it will overwrite that cfg with one from
links2 and then links 0.95 will complain of unknown options but still
work.

I installed links 0.98 on bl2 (where I have installed a C compiler) and it
overwrote links 0.95.
To have ssl support I would have also installed openssl.

I added ssl support to links2 during compilation. If links 0.98 does not come with ssl support compiled into it, and ldd does not indicate that it requires openssl.so*, you probably cannot add it. My minimal openssl package contains ONLY the static libraries and headers (/include/*.h) needed to compile links2, and the perl package contains only the files needed to compile openssl (which you don't need to do since I did it already to get the static libraries and headers).

Apparently links can be compiled with ssl support but Steven either chose not to include it (to keep it smaller) or it would not compile with libc (like it would not for links2). Maybe he can compile a version with ssl for glibc.

Elinks can be compiled with ssl support. I wish someone more experienced than me would compile it for BL (with ssl support, even if that requires glibc). If not, I will eventually try but when I write in here for help generally nobody can help with the more complicated details. Elinks would be a great improvement over having to use Opera to read text with javascript.

It would be possible at this point to "add" ssl support using your minimal
openssl package (and perl minimal package) in bl2?
Only during compilation.

I suppose that to have openssl installed I need a C compiler and Perl.
Is there any packages for a C compiler and Perl (or openssl) in bl3?

A recent thread listed the packages needed to compile in BL3. They take up about 35MB but you can delete documentation (doc man info). Four or five packages. First you will need to compile openssl (static library and headers are needed) using perl (you can just install the pieces that I used - see my posting or my package) all compiled against libc, but Steven said he tried hard to compile links2 with ssl support and gave up. So I suggest you add a few libraries from libc6 (some of which you need for Opera anyway) and use my links2 with ssl support, if you have the space and memory. Or the delilinux links2 with ssl support and X support, in nongraphical mode.

sourceforge lists several minilinuxes with precompiled links, including basiclinux. You need 0.94r4 or later for ssl.

elinks binaries are available for some recent linuxes.

Salve,

I installed bl3 on a 486DX with 12 Mb RAM.
I downloaded (from www.ausreg.com/bl/bl3/) and I installed (pkg)
pure-ftpd.
When I run ftpd (/usr/sbin/pure-ftpd &) I receive this message:
"Unable to start a standalone server: address already in use".
Any suggestions?

Before you run pure-ftpd, type ps or top to see if it is already running.
My guess is that you started it twice. I don't know how to stop it except
by killing the process number, or kill `pidof pure-ftpd`.

Another question.
I installed Karolis Lynx (lynx-2.8.6rel4-2_2.4 uclibc-static): it
complains
when connecting to gmail but finally it works.
You probably are told to go to a non-javascript page. Lynx has no
javascript.

Links 0.95 in bl3 is nice and fast: I downloaded links 0.98 (with ssl
support) in a slackware package.
ldd links-0.95 will tell you if you have the required libraries (libc.so.6
is glibc)

My question is:
installing this version will produce any conflicts with existing links
0.95
in bl3?

links 0.95 and 0.98 use the same links.cfg
If you install links2 package it will overwrite that cfg with one from
links2 and then links 0.95 will complain of unknown options but still
work.

BTW when I install a package with pkg how can I uninstall?

tar -ztvf filename.tgz
lists where all the files went from the package.

Remove them all with rm but you need to be careful not to remove files
that are used by other packages. Is there an installpkg and removepkg for
Slackware 4.0? This keeps a list of files used by all packages and
removes only unused ones.

Thank you for help.
