Yes, last year I wrote a DOS script text2ps with makes use of Imagick
and GS:
-----------------------
USAGE: text2ps typeface pointsize "text input"
Supported typefaces (*=only Latin 1):
Gothic GothicB GothicI GothicBI Bookman BookmanB BookmanI BookmanBI
Century CenturyB CenturyI CenturyBI Helvetica HelveticaB HelveticaI
HelveticaBI HelveticaC HelveticaCB HelveticaCI HelveticaCBI Times
TimesB TimesI TimesBI Courier CourierB CourierI CourierBI Palladio
PalladioB PalladioI PalladioBI CharterB* CharterBI* Charter*
CharterI* Antiqua* Grotesk*
------------------------
The number of GS fonts is actually not so bad. But as I have to
work with Latin2 I am still looking for alternatives. BDF fonts
seemed to be some kind of standard, I thought. But I could not find
them, perhaps they are not.

Now I had time to read your instructions on the web page. This is
fantastic. I will probably never begin to use Linux if it is that
simple! My old DOS word processor produces output .ps. The printer
in our office is PS capable, too. So it would be enough to write a
few scripts to modify the output that is sent to the printer.
