That ftp server doesn't need to be limited to a directory tree. In its default configuration, it won't accept anonymous log-in. My wife has to log in with her own username and password, and then she gets to access ONLY the directory where she has permission - in this case only her /home/"wife" directory, where she has control over her own stuff.

Copy pure_ftpd to /usr/sbin (you do not need the rest of Ron's package)

On the server and client, insmod network modules and ifconfig 192.168.1.1 (client) and 192.168.1.2 (server).

On server: pure-ftpd &

(to get a reusable terminal, and the process ID, i. e. 196, so you can kill it with kill 196)

On client change to directory you want to download to then to fetch a file from /tmp on th server:

user remote-server localfile remotefile

ftpget -u root 192.168.1.2 filename /tmp/filename

Fetches /tmp/filename to the current directory

Probably you can also (with server and client reversed)

remotefile localfile
ftpput -u root 192.168.1.1 /tmp/filename filename

ftp (from kermit) puts you into the /root directory after you login
as root with Enter for password.

I did not try any of the options, such as only allowing logins at certain hours, or only anonymously. Overkill for transferring files from Windows to linux via ftp with both computers not on the internet.

Works perfectly. 68K, cannot be stripped smaller.

Thanks, Ron

Sindi

I have posted all three sets of ltmodem modules as lucent.tgz, with the two required devices, and changes to eznet.conf, and dialing scripts.
