Barely. ~520KB bzImage. Almost everything =M.

That is a LOT smaller.

But everything is a module, so you have to boot from one device (initrd)
and then load everything as a module. Of course you can just throw
everything into /etc/rc and forget about it.

In the delilinux ide kernel (900+K) everything is also a module - there are lots of possible USB modules.

They also support many other things like sound. Like Slackware bare.i.

Want to post this
somewhere for other BL users to use instead of SW81 bare.i image?

Not really. Unless you have a similar hardware configuration as I
do, it's useless. Better to get a kernel from somewhere else. There
are plenty of good binaries floating around the Internet.

I will try delilinux if I end up needing USB support. Small chance I will be high bid on a serial camera at 3 am Sunday since it comes without software (I have 60K photopc for DOS or linux and therefore don't need Win98 with 50MB spare disk space - it sounds like the slightly larger kernel and the modules would take up more space than photopc).

Or does 2.4.x support USB better somehow? I have kernel source on CD for SW81.

Our USB computers are 1998 or 1999 so probably ohci.

Probably not. My 1998 PC takes usb-uhci. My PC purchased two months
ago also takes that. The only ohci I've seen is a Compaq. If you really
need to know, insmod both and see which one gives an error.

Good idea. Of our computers with USB, three are Compaq, three Gateway.

If it has a memory card but not a card reader does it use Mass Storage?

It could be either.
Any way to predict before purchasing a camera? Which method do you find easier to learn or use?
