This is totally off-topic, but my answer to this is yes, I've been running
my own software business for four years now. I'm really picky in terms of
the work I do, so I don't make the 6 figures other programmers do, but
I've done alright. It's scientific programming. That is, I write
software for scientists to analyze their data in a certain way.

Yep. One of the minor reasons I'm moving away from computers and IT in
general is that I see this continuing. But the primary reason why I'm
moving away from IT is that I can't see myself doing it for the next 30-40
years. I *can* see myself diggin' in the dirt for that long, though! :)

You need to go out and look for it, just like with any other business.
But at least in my line of work, it's very easy to get it. Over the years
I've built up a large list of clients that I can go back to again and
again if I need to. My supreme desire, though, is to *not* have to write
any more computer code -- but alas, I'll do anything I need to in order to
help my veggies grow. I call it "working in the quarry" (anyone who's
read Ayn Rand's 'The Fountainhead' will know what I mean by that).

I'm in rural southeast Arizona. I guess the most notable thing in my area
that everyone would know is that I'm about 25 minutes away from Tombstone.

Matt
