SPEWS, Vipul's Razor, and their ilk seem like your competitor's best friend.
A competitor sends a few complaints, maybe signing up for your newsletter
just to get a copy to send in, and your business and customers get toasted
with no clear way to resolve. Or, if I blast out 10M offensive emails
through an open relay, and I include your url as links throughout them, the
vigilantes will be my muscle to harm your business.

They do not behave in any manner as a professional business or responsible
organization would. Seldom a contact provided or FAQ for blacklisted
companies, but the red carpet forum is open if you have open-source or
hacking skills. I've seen companies get on the blacklist, and the list
manager never contacts them, never sends them a copy of the complaint or
suspect email, never tries to resolve the situation for the good of society,
just sends their name all about as spammers based on a flawed scoring
system. It's irresponsible to a criminal degree. They are like union
strikers that think it's for the "common good" to beat scabs with baseball
bats, or like police who are tired of dealing with crackheads, so they open
fire on anyone fitting their stereotype of a drug dealer. It's laziness and
misplaced evangelism on the part of the blacklister managers.
