The company that started this VOIP trend is Vonage (http://www.vonage.com/).
Their basic
unlimited plan is $24.99, which I believe is less than TW. The two benefits
I see from a service

codes.
I was a Packet 8 (http://www.packet8.net) subscriber for a few months. Their service is $19.95/mo. (much cheaper than the similar Vonage plan at $34.99/mo).
The service was great! I canceled it after a while, since I really only wanted to test-drive the technology. I also discovered a much cheaper service to use, IConnectHere (http://www.iconnecthere.com), though it doesn't work directly with your standard telephones. I'll soon be paying about 1 cent a minute for calls. Not bad!
Anyone not bored to tears by this thread should check into the upcoming TriLUG presentations on VoIP. The legendary Jon Carnes will be speaking Thursday night about some of this cool new technology. Also, at a future meeting I'll be presenting a talk on using Linux and the Asterisk PBX software to create your own personal phone system.
Cheers!
