BTW, there is no way to truly and accurately measure trans fat. The
FDA, in its supreme logic, requires it on a label, but doesn't state a
accepted method of quantifying the amount, so it is estimated.
I skimmed your post the first time around and missed something...
Generally speaking, what you wrote is true, but trans fats do allegedy
occur in small amounts in nature, too. According to this page from
Canada, http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$Department/deptdocs.nsf/all/sg11371
the shoulder and ribs of lamb contain .2 grams of trans fats per 100
grams or 0.2% trans fat. They say it is in beef and dairy, too.
I'm suspicious...
1. these animals are usually fed crap to fatten them up
2. If the best they can do on an estimate is 0.2%, well...
3. Since they can estimate and round off, something with 0.45g of trans
fat could be listed as zero, and in a days time, you could easily go
over the 2 g limit and not even know it.
