If you get them started in the late winter or early spring, they will stagnate in the summer but continue growing in the fall. Another advantage with leeks is that it is just about impossible to freeze them out. They wouldn't have survived this winter's cold here, but most winters you can leave them in the ground and pull them when you want them.

So when would they be ready to pull and eat? Fall? Second Spring?
