Actually,
He enlisted in the reserves and deserted (his status was changed later).
Went to England to protest the war (and avoid the draft) then Norway to
protest, back to England to protest, Finland to protest and finally left for
Moscow where he stayed in the most expensive hotel in Europe at the time, owned
by the KGB. He says he did all this on the 275.00 given him for oxford.
