I rarely question you, James. But, I would like to see a link to these peer

I'm not James, obviously, but an interesting, understandable, layman's book about the physical workings of genetics is The Genie in Your Genes, by Dawson Church. There he cites many interesting-sounding studies about many aspects of very basic (albeit not very simple!) trans-modification of cells, cell parts, and genes.

I too have read the results of not one but several studies which cite gene modification within the aging individual, mostly in canines, but also in humans. Possibly the study to which James refers is one large one done fairly recently that was fascinating in that it sounded like they had very closely followed twinsets and it sounded like they really had their ducks in a row concerning keeping the study clean, etc. The thing that sticks in my mind is that twins who had lived the longest separated from one another had more variety in the genetic studies of the later age than they did as youngsters, which raises lots of questions....envirornment? exposure to ...? and so on. Really interesting stuff....

SusanJane, who seems to be again connected to the list after an unexplained banishment.....//
