Bev; I think it's possible to live that way. But depending on
individual circumstances, 'how low you can go' will vary. My 'basic'
costs...real estate tax, homeowners/truck insurance, utilities, truck
registration and the little gas I use is about $7000/year. That's
without buying any real goods. I've reduced my gas, electric, and
phone use, but the rates have gone up, so I'm paying the same as I've
paid for years.

I just did a quick calculation, too. I estimated high to account for
future increases..I added a few hundred dollars here and there.
Real estate taxes, homeowners insurance, truck insurance x 2 ,
utilities, and gasoline comes to $5650 for me. Gasoline was based on
current usage at $2.25/ga Gas will probably be more expensive, but we
will probably use less.
My utilities include extra for price estimates for 10 years from now and
includes television, something that I do not consider a necessity.
Once the mortgage is paid, I think we can live pretty close toour
current standard of living for well under 10,000/year. Lucky thing is
that I will probably have to as we have no savings or retirement other
than SS.
