Actually, if you were really certain of high or hyper-inflation, the smart
move, now, would be to acquiore as musc debt as possible, now, and lock in
the present interest rates. If inflations only reacheas 25% (got there
during Carter), in less than 3 years , your monthly payments would be half ,
in inflation-adjusted real money, what they would be at present.
For example; If your home is worth $1000. You borrow the enite equity of
$1000 and lock in rates of 7%. Next year under Carter like inflation, you
take that $1000 and put it in a CD drawing 25%, or mutual fund maybe making
40%;. You can pay the house payments just with the interest and soon have
money left over.
The problem is that nobody really knows how long we will have inflation vs.
deflation or stagflation, etc.......bobford
