In that kind of situation, the best you can do is live in a moderately rural area, within 30-45 minutes of a mid sized town, like Rome, Ga.
Rome has theatre, museums, plenty of belles to hang out with and do stuff with. The two colleges(Berry and Shorter) have awesome Fine Arts programs and often have public events. In Rome's case, they even have a minor league baseball, a Braves farm club. I am not a big fan of baseball, but I really love going to Rome Braves games...*that's* Americana...it is baseball the way it was meant to be.

Lots of mid sized cities and towns offer 'culture'.
