We have some friends from a ranch about 3 miles from us who take care of feeding our animals for short trips 1-3 days. Since the birding and river are great attractants we have cultivated some city friends who are willing to vacation at our place when we go on vacation. I have compiled a farm sitting manual that explains everything from how to fix a leak in the irrigation system to knowing when to call the vet, a field guide to all the animals. In our case, living the homesteading life we miss it too much to be away for long. Three days in the city and I'm ready to go home.--Sage

So you have neighbors close enough to look out for you. That is good. I wonder what people do if they have no neighbors close by? or if they need to go on a trip and they have animals?. If you lived far enough back with no neighbors, some idoit could just set up camp in your house......bobford

Just talked to closest neighbor and good buddy. He and his
wife will go down and winterize the house, as I have decided to not
go back for the vote but have instead faxed a request for absentee
ballot, confirmed it was received, and my ballot is in the mail.
Jeff and I have looked out for each other for years.
I have had only one theft. The thief was a man I tried to
help. He turned out to be a common crook. He stole most of my tools.
He died and I shed not one tear.
