I remembert those too and miss them. It was longer ago for me than for you
and how odd it is that we took the setup so for granted that we did not note
it.
I remember huge chicken-fryer skillets, enormous versions of our relatively
tiny 12" and 14" skillets. At least one time I recall they were over a wood
fire or carcoal fire at a park. Several civic organizations that used to
sponsor the fries had portable, well, mobile at least, propane gas grills big
enough
to roast a pig .... which at other times they did.
Ya know, years ago there was some sort of public or civic or church do like
that all during the summer. Seems to be all gone now. </HTML>
