Agreed. I think motorcycle riders should not be required to wear
helmets. But considering they might squash their brains, shall we just
let them die unassisted or might we consider requiring that they have
adequate insurance to pay for patching them up and then the
maintenance of their vegetative state? More complicated, how shall we
deal with the needs of their children thus deprived of a wage-earning
father or mother?

Yes, motorcycling is an assumed risk. I know you mean that as an extreme
example to walk away and let them die, but short of that, it's the cyclist's
dodge. As far as their families go, let me compare that to the bad choice of
selling drugs or embezzeling , should we refrain from sending the culprit to
prison because it would deprive the child of a parent?

Overweight people can be charges 'slightly' higher rates for medical
insurance (as can smokers, skydivers, those with high blood pressure, etc)
but it is
not in proportion to their increased risk for medical expenses. If all
government guild laws were withdrawn from the medical industy, a very healthy
person
or just a person who has made wise decisions all their life could pay for
medical services easily.

It does indeed. No good, says I, has come of it.

As a society? Stop looking on people who make idiot decisons in their lives
as the honorably disadvantaged as if it were a badge of honor. </HTML>
